Why is this measure important?

CeaseFire relies on case management to reduce the likelihood of high risk individuals being involved in a shooting or a murder.

Definitions of key terms

CeaseFire: A City initiative focusing on street-level outreach, conflict mediation, and the changing of community norms to reduce violence, particularly shootings. Target Area: A ten by ten block section of Central City is bounded by Washington Ave, Claiborne Ave, Thalia St., and OC Haley/Danneel St. Hospital Crisis Intervention Team: HCIT is designed to provide crisis intervention immediately following gunshot injuries involving youth between the ages of 16 and 25, and provides case management for high-risk individuals who agree to services. Engage: The act of an outreach worker formally bringing a participant onto caseload. High-Risk Individuals: Individuals who meet at least 4 out of the 7 criteria associated with involvement in shooting-related violence.
